Science behind Indian Culture

When I was growing up, there were lot of rules, customs and traditions that my grandmother told me to do and that I religiously followed. After some time I found it so uncool and stupid to follow these things without any reason. But later I realized that there were some scientific reasons behind these 'granny sayings'. Our older generation taught us to follow these guidelines but never told us why. And we in the modern world never do anything without knowing why. Thats when i started my research on the 'Science behind Indian Culture'. But then I understood that Culture is much broader than science, but in today's world, it would always be better to do a systematic investigation of culture to know the science behind. Just a few of them I have learned from my research in the internet and hearabouts.

1. 'No onions and garlic during fasting' - According to Ayurveda, India’s classic medical science, foods are grouped into three categories – sattvic, rajasic, and tamasic—foods in the modes of goodness, passion, and ignorance.Onions and garlic are classified as rajasic and tamasic. As well as producing offensive breath and body odor, they induce aggravation, agitation, anxiety, and aggression. Thus they are harmful physically, emotionally, mentally and, spiritually.Garlic is a natural aphrodisiac(substance that increases sexual desire) which makes it completely forbidden during religious ceremonies.

2. 'Wake up at Brahma Muhurtham' - The time 90 minutes prior to sunrise is called Braahmi Muhurtham.  The light rays from the Galaxies influence the human brain. The nascent sun spreads thousand arms in the form of rays across the sky, which emit light-blue devine rays. These rays bring to life the cells and the brain.  If the man can synchronise his senses with these rays during this hour he will be empowered with unchallengeable energy. If one keep awake during these hours, it is possible to benefit from this charge.

3. Visit Temple Everyday - Normally temples are built in places where the positive energy is abundantly available from the magnetic and electric wave distributions of north/south pole thrust. In every temple, the place where the main idol is kept is known as 'Moolasthanam'.This is the point where earth’s magnetic waves are found to be maximum. We know that there are some copper plates, inscribed with Vedic scripts, buried beneath the Main Idol. The copper plate absorbs earth’s magnetic waves and radiates it to the surroundings. Thus a person regularly visiting a temple and walking clockwise around the Main Idol receives the beamed magnetic waves and his body absorbs it. This is a very slow process and a regular visit will let him absorb more of this positive energy. Scientifically, it is the positive energy that we all require to have a healthy life. The tradition of men not wearing shirts inside the temple and women wearing lot of jewellery also concurs to the absorption of this huge surge of energy by them. The “holy” water used during the pooja to wash the idol is also charged with these magnetic radiations which is served as *Theertham*. Cardamom, saffron, Tulsi,Clove, etc are added to this water to increase the medicinal value. In addition to this, the ringing of the bells, the chanting of prayers, fragrance from the flowers, the burning of camphor, group prayers etc add to the positive aura of the person visiting the temple.

4. Traditional ornaments -Men and women used to wear lot of jewelleries during older times. Bangles, Anklets, Chains , Bindis are all designed to be worn in those parts of the body where our 'pressure points' exist. These ornaments apply pressure to these pressure points which increases fertility in human body. These pressure points are used in Acupressure therapy these days to treat fertility related problems in the entire world. Most of these ornaments were used by Indian women after marriage and the sole purpose of the establishment of marriage institution was child birth and survival of the human race.

5. The so called 'Brain Yoga' - As everyone is aware 'Brain Yoga' originated from India and was a good old way of punishment in the 'Gurukul' system of learning. The punishment was holding the earlobes with arms crossed over your chests, bending the knees and then do situps. This has proven to increases the blood flow in the memory cells in brain ,synchronizes the right and left side of the brain to improve function and promote calmness, stimulates neural pathways via acupressure points in the earlobe, sharpens intelligence and also helps those with autism, asperger’s syndrome, learning difficulties and behavioral problems.

I will update more as and when I find more..
